Stressed? 6 steps to advocate for yourself at work.

This week I want to share an update about dealing with one aspect of stress in the workplace. I read once that we often feel most stressed when we believe we don’t have choice.

Often people feel like they don’t have choice in the workplace. Perhaps you can relate.

You’re in a particular situation and you start thinking there are no options but to suck it up and soldier on. Or you think you need to quit. Or you get frustrated, stressed, or resentful about the fact that you’re “stuck.”

I know there’s a better option.

That option is to take action. And exercise the choices you have to alleviate the stress.

On Friday my first column for The Daily Muse was published. In it, I share the story of a client who thought she was stuck and wanted to quit. She’d take a promotion, relocated, and then felt like she’d hit a brick wall. So frustrating!

We worked through a six-step process to engage her manager and address her concerns. Her choice was to advocate for what she needed in her job. And she was very pleased with the result.

To read the whole story, please visit my post on The Daily Muse.

I’d really appreciate it if you share, tweet or pin this post, because someone you know may need to read this story!

  1. I have been suffering with stress for years and discovered from the doctor that I have to much adrenaline pumping through me. Sometimes it is worth getting yourself checked out!!

  2. @chrisescars Wow I have never heard a story like that. So yes, it’s important to look at ALL possible aspects of what drives stress. I’m glad you got that spotted and hopefully are on the mend! ; )
