The Way You’re Dealing With Stress Is All Wrong

“If you really want to escape the things that harass you, what you’re needing is not to be in a different place but to be a different person.”

– Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Letters from a Stoic

You're dealing with stress all wrongThe American Psychological Association reported in July of this year that the #1 source of stress for Americans was “Job Pressures.” That includes co-worker tension, bosses, and work overload.

I can hear many of you thinking, “Well, duh!” ; )

And what is that stress costing us? Here are some other dreary stats they shared:

  • 77%  of people regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress.
  • 73% of people regularly experience psychological symptoms caused by stress.

The bottom line is, we need to do a better job managing stress. We’re paying for it with our well-being, and that price is TOO HIGH!

Most of us probably deal with stress the old fashioned way – by responding to it after the fact. We take yoga, or get massages, or go home and yell at the kids.

However, in this week’s post on The Daily Muse, I encourage you to explore another aspect of stress management I call “adding the opposite.” Yes, I stole that from today’s math teachers. Amazingly, it works for as well for stress as it does for integers!

If you’re curious about how you can shift to mitigate stress, rather than always trying to recover from it, read this week’s post!
