Did you ever have one of those “good news/bad news” days?
You know the kind. Someone says, “Ok, I have some good news, and some bad news.”
Well I had that day a while back in my career, and it was painful.
The good news? In the midst of a major acquisition I was asked to become the manager of the group I was in. Very exciting.
.
The bad news? I had no idea how to do that, and to say it was a “raggedy start” would be an understatement.
Oh, and there were no resources or any kind of support from HR or others.
Things were moving fast and those details simply weren’t a high priority while everything else was going on.
Don’t get me wrong, I worked with outstanding people. And, the move from peer to manager is a tough one no matter how you slice it.
In this week’s column for TheMuse.com I address how anyone can make that transition from peer to manager less painful. As they say, “If only I knew then what I know now…”
It was good learning. So maybe you can learn from my experience, and you’ll have a much easier transition.
Go here to get your wisdom. And enjoy the week ahead!
When you understand how to go from peer to leader effectively, you’re building a lasting Career Strategy.
